Joe Barone received his B.A. in Business from
Michigan State University and his Juris Doctorate from Thomas Cooley Law
School. He also has a Master of Laws degree from Wayne State
University. Before entering private law practice, he was a financial
planner. He successfully passed the series 6 and series 63
securities licensing exams. He was also licensed in real estate sales,
life insurance, health insurance and variable contracts. He is a member of the Michigan Association for Justice, the Probate and Estate Planning and the Elder Law Sections of the
State Bar of Michigan. He is also a member of the Catholic Lawyers'
Society, the Italian-American Bar Association and the Incorporated Society
of Irish Lawyers. He holds a certificate from the Institute of
Continuing Legal Education and the State Bar of Michigan Probate and
Estate Planning Section. He is also licensed to practice law in
Illinois.
Joe currently serves on the Plymouth Township Downtown
Development Authority. He is active in the Plymouth Chamber of
Commerce, the Canton Chamber of Commerce and the Northville Chamber of
Commerce. He has served as a volunteer trial attorney for the
Schoolcraft College Police Academy. He is a Canton Chamber of
Commerce Ambassador. Joe is also a graduate of
Leadership Plymouth. He has been a frequent guest speaker for the
Canton Homeowner's Advisory Council and at the 35th District Court.
He has participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life and the
Muscular Dystrophy Annual Lock-Up. He is a proud
supporter of Education Excellence, the Canton Community Foundation,
the Community Foundation of Plymouth, Schoolcraft College, Plymouth-Canton Marching Band, and various
Plymouth-Canton sports teams. In 2008, Joe ran for 35th District
Court Judge ultimately finishing 2nd out of 6 candidates. In the
November general election, Joe received nearly 32,000 votes out of 67,000
total votes. His primary practice areas include
estate planning and criminal law. He is the youngest of four children.
Maria Barone received her
B.A. from Michigan State University in Communications. She
graduated from Thomas Cooley Law School Cum Laude and in the top 5% of her
class. Before entering private practice, she was employed at Foster,
Swift, Collins & Smith P.C., in Lansing, Michigan. She is a former
adjunct professor at Thomas Cooley Law School. She is a member of
the Family Law section for the State Bar of Michigan. She practices
exclusively family law.
Maria is currently on the Board of Directors for the
Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as Chairperson for the
Plymouth Chamber Small Business Committee. She has participated in
the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She is the oldest of two
children.
Andrew S. Gerkin received his B.A. from the
University of Michigan. He graduated Cum Laude from
Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He is
licensed to practice in all state courts and the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
His primary practice areas are consumer bankruptcy, probate
administration and criminal defense. He resides in
Howell with his wife, Stephanie Gerkin.
